Spindle A. Webb is both my artistic pseudonym and an alter ego whose creation spawned one of my many realms. In my mind's eye I envision vast worlds which I have generated throughout my years. While most of my pieces are fantasy-based, each one has a touch of realism whether it be my subjects or the concept of the paintings.
To get away from reality as a child, I spun fantasy worlds inspired by movies, stories, many great artists and colours. My use of intense colours comes from my surroundings as I grew up. I spent a lot of time daydreaming while I was living in a cluster of paradise islands. For the first half of my life this great space germinated my worlds. I was enveloped by surreal beauty drenched in unfathomably rich colours. Pastel-coloured architecture looked like sugar. The foliage and fauna were bright and abundant. The enchanted nights were filled with giant bugs, serenaded by tree-frogs, toads, night birds and crickets. Harbours were sprinkled with stars from the milky-way as glow worms danced five inches under the warm water's surface.
Strong female figures have always inspired me and being an awkward child who didn't really fit in, helped to make my female characters very strong and independent. Whether they are man-hating Amazons, soft-hearted faeries or evil spellbinding witches, they are dominant, passionate paradigms of feminine mystique and strength. I do everything to convey these attributes in my works.
What drives me to create my best pieces are when I envision my most dear muses in a world influenced by music. Each piece starts with a simple idea but in the development process they will become much more involved and a story unfolds which I must tell. Ergo, character development begins and the rest are infused together intertwining dark content, saturations of vivid colours and movement. On top of these things, I indulge in very tight details which all things considered can create many changes in colour format, confusion and creative obstacles. I also take extra measures to hide or disguise some of my subjects in my stories which is indicative of faerie realms. You may not see them at first but if you look long and hard enough, they will reveal themselves to you. My pieces can entail arduous months, even years of labour regardless of size.
I create each piece because I relish sharing my worlds with others. We are all blessed with the gift of imagination and I believe that a painting draws different interpretations that allows everyone to create their own unique stories and ideas, and I deeply considered describing each piece for you but I decided against it because I do not believe in dictating ideas. Just let the titles of my pieces serve as your guide.
Thank you
